Please click the link below to complete the survey for the Chemicals Disposal Service Finder - produced by Defra’s Pesticides Safety Directorate.

Once we have your completed survey your council's service details can be entered into the nation-wide post code search finder which can be installed onto your council's web site. This is designed to save you time passing on service details to the public about your council's chemical drop-off and or collection services.

Please return your survey to us to be included in the "chemical disposal service database". Once you have filled in your details click the "send" button at the end of the survey. If for any reason you cannot provide us with your service information or you need to contact us about the survey, please click the "help link" button at the end of the survey to explain this or to send your enquiry. Please also include your telephone number so we can contact you.

Universal Chemical Store

All surveys completed by 30th June 06 will be entered into a prize draw to receive a free "Universal Chemical Store" from Cleveland Sitesafe.

Please read on for a full explanation of this survey and how the information you provide us with can help you and your council.

Defra's Pesticides Safety Directorate (www.pesticides.gov.uk) is continuing to develop on-line guidance that will allow the public to search for information about domestic chemical disposal services. Your assistance in providing information about your authority's services would be greatly appreciated.

About the guidance

Members of the public in England, Scotland and Wales will be able to enter their postcode to locate the facilities nearest to them. The database will give information on what services are provided (eg collection or drop-off facilities), site locations, opening times and charges. Local authorities will be able to install a link from their websites to the database, which will be made freely available on the National Household Hazardous Waste Forum (NHHWF) website in April 2006.

Garden Chemicals Campaign Guide

In addition, a Garden Chemicals Campaign Guide is also being developed to help local authorities plan and deliver effective communications campaigns. This will provide free downloadable communications materials that can be tailored to suit individual campaigns, such as leaflet templates and posters detailing the safe use, storage and disposal of garden chemicals. This will also be made available on the NHHWF website. Questions 7 and 8 in this survey relate to this guide.

About the survey

The survey requests brief details of your chemicals' collection and disposal facilities and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

The survey is being carried out by the NHHWF (www.nhhwf.org.uk) on behalf of the Pesticides Safety Directorate.

Data protection

The information that you give us about your chemical disposal services will be displayed on the National Household Hazardous Waste Forum web site. The answers that you give to questions 7 and 8, which relate to how you communicate with the public about chemical disposal services will not be made public but will be used to help inform the Garden Chemicals Campaign Guide. This data will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
